Esperance Port Environment Management Plan hidden: Greens
Media Release, 29 March 2007
"In the light of recent revelations of lead pollution at the
Esperance port and community anger about being kept in the dark
about health risks the Greens will push for Port Environment
Management Plans to be made public," said Giz Watson MLC.
"Currently Port Environmental Management Plans are hidden
in Strategic Development Plans, which are not available to
the public," Ms Watson said.
"The Minister has the power to require all Port Authorities
to make their Environmental Management Plans public as well
as requiring regular monitoring and evaluation of these plans."
The Greens call on Minister MacTiernan to:
- audit all port authorities to ensure that they have adequate
environmental management plans in place;
- ensure all EMPs are monitored regularly; and
- make all EMPs available to the public.
