Greens welcome 20% by 2020 renewable energy target

Government endorsement of a 20% renewable energy target, backed by legislation, has the support of all political parties, say the Greens.

"The Greens Bill for a 20% by 2020 target has already been passed in the Upper House last year, with the enthusiastic support of the Liberals and Nationals," said Greens MLC Giz Watson.

Ms Watson said that while the target was an excellent starting point, firm government policies, including energy efficiency programs such as BASIX and emissions trading, were needed to back it and secure investment in a clean, green energy future for Western Australia.

The long-awaited Government's Greenhouse and Energy Taskforce's report is expected to be released by the Premier at the beginning of next week.
