Government Must Strengthen Lobbyist Rules: Greens
Media Release, 5 June 2008
The Upper House has passed a Greens motion calling for an inquiry into legislation to regulate lobbyists.
The motion now goes to the Lower House, offering Premier Carpenter a chance to reconsider opposition to such an inquiry.
“We need to tackle this issue now, rather than waiting for the CCC” said Greens MLC Giz Watson.
“An open, public inquiry by a Joint Parliamentary Committee is the best way to go about it.”
The motion also established a Select Committee of the Legislative Council to look at powers and penalties concerning breaches of parliamentary privilege and contempts of Parliament.
